Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series is set to receive an upgrade this year, with the introduction of the new ‘Ultra’-branded Galaxy Z Foldable. While details about the hardware specifications of the Ultra model are still unknown, there have been numerous leaks about the standard model, currently referred to as the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 5, which was a minor improvement over its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 4, reports suggest that the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6 will feature the same cameras as the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
However, Samsung is expected to introduce different cameras for the more premium Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra variant, although specific details have not been disclosed. According to a previous report, these cameras could be borrowed from Samsung’s flagship camera-centric smartphone, the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
While some Samsung fans may find this news disappointing, considering the lack of significant upgrades in the previous model compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 4, this move is not surprising. Samsung has followed a similar strategy with its Galaxy S24 models, focusing on SoC or performance enhancements while maintaining the same hardware for other components. For instance, this year’s Galaxy S24 features an identical camera setup to last year’s Galaxy S23 and its predecessor.
Meanwhile, the competition in India is growing, with brands like OnePlus, Oppo, and Motorola introducing book-style foldable devices alongside their existing flippable options. Vivo is also rumored to bring its Vivo X Fold 3, a slim and camera-focused foldable, to the Indian market after its recent launch in China.
A recent report suggests that the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 will share more similarities with the current Galaxy Z Fold 5 model. According to the same source, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to feature a 4,400mAh battery and support 25W wired charging, just like its predecessor.
