Gadgets 360 was granted access to the GPT-4o model on Friday morning, indicating that the AI model will indeed be accessible in India, despite not being explicitly mentioned during OpenAI’s Spring Update event. However, this access was limited to a select few staff members, suggesting that the company is implementing a gradual rollout of the AI model, which may take a few weeks before it becomes available to everyone. The current access limitations are quite restrictive, as I was only able to ask around ten questions before reaching my usage limit and being reverted back to GPT-3.5.
Currently, there are no means for users to expedite their access over others. No waiting list is in place for enrollment. Nevertheless, users must possess an OpenAI account to qualify for this enhancement. Upon the release of GPT-4o, users will receive a notification upon visiting the website, indicating their ability to utilize it to a certain extent. If the same account is used on the Android or iOS app, access to the model will also be granted. It is important to remember that refreshing the page will cause the notification to vanish.
There exists a simple method to verify whether GPT-4o is accessible to you (in case the notification was overlooked). Upon entering the ChatGPT website, a collapsible menu can be observed at the top left corner. If GPT-4o is not available to you, and you are a free user, ChatGPT 3.5 will be displayed, along with the option to upgrade to ChatGPT Plus for access to GPT-4. Conversely, if you do have access to the new AI model, the menu will not display any version numbers, only ChatGPT and ChatGPT Plus. Additionally, the lightning icon will be replaced by two intersecting elliptical circles, resembling a minimalist atom icon.
We tested out the new AI model and discovered enhancements in its performance. A notable improvement was seen in its ability to solve mathematical equations. In comparison to GPT-3.5, the new model presents answers in a more organized manner and breaks down complex problems into manageable steps. The creativity in its responses has also improved, with a noticeable decrease in the use of technical jargon. The most significant upgrade is its capability to search the internet for up-to-date information, eliminating concerns about outdated knowledge. Moreover, each search result now includes citations indicating the source of the information retrieved from the web.
