Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6: Initial thoughts
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is now thinner and the lightest book-style fold Samsung has ever made. It weighs 239 grams, compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s 253 grams, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s 221 grams. The design change is noticeable, and you can feel it while using the device. However, it still may not be suitable for one-handed use for most tasks. The crease is less apparent than on the Galaxy Fold 5, showing slight improvement.
Samsung emphasized that the hinge is improved and more durable, as we see with incremental updates every year. The display is bright, with top-notch color reproduction and a peak brightness of 2600nits. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor powers both new foldables. Samsung also claims to have the biggest vapour chamber ever used on a Galaxy Z device. The cameras on paper appear almost identical to the Fold 5, and the battery remains the same at 4,400mAh.
Moving on to the Flip 6, the clamshell-style foldable from Samsung has some significant upgrades this year. It features a 50-megapixel primary sensor and a larger 4,000mAh battery compared to the Flip 5’s 3,700mAh. Both new foldables have IP48 water resistance. The crease on the Flip 6 is almost invisible, and the display and upgraded camera are excellent. The performance was top-notch in the limited time spent with the phone. We will reserve our verdict on the Flip 6 for our review.
