India has emerged as the world’s second-largest producer of mobile phones by the end of the decade from 2014 to 2024. This milestone signifies a significant shift in the country’s electronics manufacturing industry
Decreased Reliance on Imports
The India Cellular and Electronics Association reports that the mobile phone sector has transitioned from being 78 percent import-dependent in 2014 to achieving 97 percent self-sufficiency by 2024. Currently, only 3 percent of the total mobile phones sold in India are imported.
Unprecedented Output
India’s mobile phone production has soared to an impressive 20 lakh crore rupees during this decade of remarkable growth. Over the span of ten years, the country manufactured 2.45 billion units of mobile phones, just shy of the target of 2.5 billion units.
Flourishing Manufacturing Environment
This outstanding accomplishment underscores the expansion of India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem. By reducing its dependence on imports and nurturing a self-reliant mobile phone production sector, the country has made significant strides.
India’s ascent as the world’s second-largest mobile phone producer is a testament to its dedication to cultivating a robust manufacturing industry. With diminished import reliance and substantial production levels, India has solidified its position as a key player in the global mobile phone market, contributing to its economic development and technological progress.
