iOS 17.4.1 has started rolling out to eligible iPhone models, with a few bug fixes and security updates included, as per Apple’s announcement. This minor update follows closely after the release of iOS 17.4, which introduced support for third-party app stores in the European Union (EU), transcripts for Apple Podcasts, and new emoji on March 5. The latest iOS software update has been launched alongside iPadOS 17.4.1, which also incorporates some of these crucial fixes.
Similar to previous iOS 17 versions, the newest iOS 17.4.1 update is accessible for download on iPhone XS and newer models, while the iPadOS 17.4.1 update can be installed on eligible iPad, iPad Mini, iPad Pro, and iPad Air models. Users with iPhone 8 series, iPhone X, and certain older iPad models can opt for iOS 16.7.7 and iPadOS 16.7.7.
Apple’s release notes highlight that the latest iOS 17.4.1 update brings “important bug fixes and security updates” and is recommended for all users. However, the company’s support page does not currently disclose the specifics of the security flaws that were addressed, mentioning that details will be shared later. The same message is displayed for the iPadOS 17.4.1 update on Apple’s website.
Earlier this month, Apple introduced iOS 17.4 with various modifications for EU users. To adhere to the EU’s Digital Markets Act, the company now permits third-party app stores in the EU, while users in the region have the option to set third-party browsers as the default app on iOS. These alterations are exclusive to iOS in the EU, as iPadOS 17.4 was released simultaneously without these features.
The update to iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4 also included support for new emoji such as mushroom, phoenix, lime, broken chain, and shaking heads. Users who have updated to the latest versions can utilize these emoji and view them across different apps after updating to iOS 17.4 or iPadOS 17.4.
Apple also enhanced its Stolen Device Protection feature with the iOS update.
To get the iOS 17.4.1 update on your iPhone, just go to Settings, tap on General, then Software Update, and hit Install Now. It’s the same drill for iPadOS 17.4.1, and make sure your devices are plugged in while updating.
