Microsoft’s upcoming Surface Laptop 6 has been seen in a Geekbench listing, showcasing its Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 chipset with 12 cores running at 4.01GHz. This chip is part of the Snapdragon X Elite series, and while it’s not the most powerful variant, it still promises impressive performance. Reports suggest that Microsoft might unveil these new Surface laptops with Snapdragon X Elite chips at a hardware event in May.

The alleged Surface Laptop 6, equipped with a Snapdragon X Elite chip, has achieved a single-core score of 2,714 points and a multi-core score of 14,078 points. This means that the chip outperforms Apple’s 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro in Geekbench’s multi-core tests. The M3 MacBook Pro scored 3,103 and 12,065 points, respectively.
If these benchmark tests are accurate, then Apple’s M3 chip should be approximately 13.37 percent faster than the rumored Snapdragon X Elite chip in the Surface Laptop 6. On the other hand, Qualcomm’s chip is shown to be 15.4 percent faster than the M3 MacBook Pro. This is likely due to the Snapdragon processor having more cores (12) compared to Apple’s M3 chip (8).
However, it’s important to approach these benchmarks with caution since Microsoft has not yet announced any plans to release new Surface models with Snapdragon laptop chips. According to a recent report, Microsoft is confident that the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 can outperform the latest 3nm Apple Silicon processor. We can expect to learn more about these rumored devices soon, as Microsoft is rumored to unveil new Surface laptops powered by Snapdragon chips at its upcoming hardware event next month.
